The Sesquicentennial

Your hometown only turns 150 years old once.

I grew up on a farm outside of Orangeville, Ontario. In 2019, our Township celebrated its 150th birthday. This little poem was meant to commemorate that special day.

Automobiles of a bygone age;
And country classics from a stage.
Vintage bikes and antique tractors;
Sold-out bus tours of East Garafraxa.

Marsville yearbooks at the Orton church;
With our pioneer's items, there to search. 
Book signings with town historians;
And tug-of-war with the politicians.

One hundred fifty years remembered; 
With fireworks on the baseball diamond.
